“It was a moment of magic, a revelation so unexpected that i stood transfixed, unable to believe my eyes….. I had seen landscapes of rural beauty pictured in the local art gallery, but here was no painted canvas; this was real. This was truth.”
A Wainwright, Ex-Fellwander,
Wainwright vividly describes the moment that transformed his life,-his first trip to the Lakes, at the age of 23. Although only 60 miles away, this was a great adventure. Wainwright had never even seen the sea before! He and his cousin walked together from the bus station in Windermere up the lanes to the Orrest Head viewpoint. The scene that suddenly unfolded is described in great detail in his book. It was an uplifting moment that brought about his lifetime’s love affair with the Lakes.
I can really identify with this - the first view from the Leeds to Windermere coach as it crested the rise towards Windermere was just so exciting for me!
This song is a celebration of Lakeland and its uplifting effect!
lyrics
When Friday comes it's away to the fells
And the joy of Lakeland's embrace
Spirits soar higher with each stride you take
At one with the world in the Lakes
At one with the world in the Lakes
