“Surely there is no other place in this whole wonderful world quite like Lakeland"
A Wainwright, Introduction to “A Pictorial Guide to the Lakeland Fells, Book One ,The Eastern Fells “, 1955
Sixty years on, one of the things that makes Wainwright's guides so special is that, as well as being illustrated with his own drawings, the text is all hand written by him. As well as recognising his work, in this song, I have drawn inspiration from his introduction to Book One, and celebrate some of the Lakeland images he describes.
lyrics
Wainwright was a man of the fells
Lakeland's peaks and dales
Their exploration his lifetime's work
To be completed without fail
